Humane Society International is working with Haitians to overcome the challenges now faced in the wake of the earthquake. One major issue - there's not enough food to go around for all the people, cattle, pigs, horses, other farm animals, and pets. This is their struggle.

Found roaming in the streets of Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina hit, these two lucky dogs were adopted. Their new family moved to Port-au-Prince, and yet again, they found themselves alone after the earthquake hit. Their family had to leave them behind, but thanks to Humane Society International, they weren't alone for long.

In Blount County, Alabama, a man who started with the best of intentions rescuing animals in need realized his love was turning into neglect. He was no longer able to care for the dogs and cats, and surrendered them to local authorities. The conditions rescuers found them in made the mission all the more difficult.
